Xile is an fictional coffee roaster and tea company located in Providence, Rhode Island. It is located near the Rhode Island School of Design and in the heart of Brown University’s campus. Providence is a town that loves itscoffee—it has more coffee and donut shops per capita than any other city in the U.S. —so competition for Xile is strong. My creative solution to this issue was to create a coffee shop unlike any other coffee shop around. Xile is a fun, quirky, humorous, relaxed hangout spot for all ages and kinds. We all know what it is like to walk into one of those persnickety coffee shops and feel a bit intimidated by the vibe they put off.
Xile being located near a college where people come from all walks of life and are encouraged to co-exist is the inspiration behind this brand. Xile is a place where a jock and a nerd , a mute and a valedictorian, a stoner and a old lady could sit down, have a conversation, enjoy delicious coffee together and maybe gain a new perspective or two. I wanted the look of the brand to reflect this not so normal vibe of the coffee shop. I used the color orange as a tribute to 70’s counter culture and its bright, bold, funky feel. The design for Xile is the right mix of modern, edgy and unique design.
Eco-Packaging is a study I did to learn more about how I could bridge the gap between two interest and passions of mine, design and sustainability. With an overwhelming amount of trash being produced daily by us, the consumers, I believe it is our duty as designers to not add to this extra waste and misuse of materials. By being a designer and having an enviornmental and sustainable mindset, we hold tremendous value in being able to not only design more visually interesting and effective products but products that also embody more sustainable systems.
Is a travel book I put together to keep track of my adventures and revelations while backpacking and hiking. Nature is so close to my heart and holds great significance in my life. If I could, I would walk barefoot everywhere just to feel more grounded. I have this goal that by the time I hit 30, I will have walked 1,000,000 steps backpacking and hiking on trails. I have a long way to go but am sure I will hit this goal with no problems. Nature is full of beautiful and remarkable design if you just take the time to look around and observe it. Having this book will help me keep track of all these wonderful experiences I have along the way.
This is a Brand standards manual I created as a redesign for an existing commercial and wholesale faucet company that has been in business since 1901. They have been one of, if not the leading developer and inventors of commercial and non commercial faucet designs. For a brand that has such a rich and unique history, its branding was very typical and bland. I wanted to put the brand back on the cutting edge but not lose any of its tradition and sophistication, just a little face lift.
As an artist one thing I enjoy doing is engaging in other art forms and experiencing art forms I may not be capable of myself. I think there is great value in that, you can always take something you learn from another art form and find a way to make it your own and implement it into your art. Forecastle is a local music festival right here in my home town, Louisville. I was strapped for cash and couldn’t afford to go into the festival so instead I designed a poster and posted outside the venue listening to all the great music, hanging out with passing byers, and selling posters.
Marina is a typeface I created out of my love for the beach, nature and fishing. Fishing has been a big part of my life ever since I can remember. Going to the beach with my family every summer, waking up at the wee hours of the morning to go catch the big one that got away with my father and two brothers. This typeface reflects the fun but unpredictable nature of fishing. It is built upon Microsoft y Baiti and features multiple characters that change heights in order to mimic the way they move in schools.
